Betty Keffer, JOHNSON CITY

Betty Ogle Keffer, 84, Johnson City, died Sunday, August 11, 2013, at Appalachian Christian Village, following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Keffer was born November 13, 1928, and was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City.
She was a daughter of the late Charles Robert and Carmel Ellis Ogle.
Mrs. Keffer was educated in the public schools, was a 1946 graduate of Science Hill High School and attended Milligan College.
She retired from Eastman Kodak Company after thirty-five years of service from the Treasurer’s Division, Business Services Department, as a general supervisor.
Mrs. Keffer was a lifelong member of East Unaka Christian Church, where she was organist for more than sixty years. She was a member and former officer of the Win-A-Couple Sunday School Class and a past-president of the Dorcus Circle.
She was a member and served in various official capacities of the Monday Club, Johnson City Book Club, Mended Hearts Inc. of the Johnson City Medical Center, Pilot Club, Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority and the Green Thumb Garden Club.
Mrs. Keffer also served as a member of the Executive Committee and the Board of Trustees of the Appalachian Christian Village, where she received the James H. Dampier Distinguished Service Award in 2004.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years, John B. Keffer, in 2009, her sister, Mildred Ogle Hammett, her brother, James Robert Ogle, paternal grandparents, Ellen Sims and James Ogle, maternal grandparents, Laura Bowery and James I. Ellis, one nephew, Richard Calvin Hammett.
Mrs. Keffer is survived by two nephews, Ronald Hammett and wife Brenda, Gray, Michael Ogle and wife Audrey, Maryville; two nieces, Brenda Hammett Oxendine and husband Winston, Sr., Johnson City, and Cathy Ogle Smay and husband Ed, Celina.
The funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at 4:30 P.M., from the East Chapel of the Appalachian Funeral Home, with Dr. Wayne Emery, officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3:00-4:30 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.
The graveside committal service will be held Thursday at 10:00 A.M. in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Those planning to attend are to meet at the cemetery by 9:55 A.M.
