Isaiah 40:31: “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
Howard Newton Street, age 80, 306 Massachusetts Avenue, Unicoi, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 9, 2013, at 11:17 a.m.
He was born in Unicoi County, a son of the late Luther Monroe and Bert Erwin Street. Mr. Street was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was honored with the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Street was a retired Maintenance Supervisor for Nuclear Fuel Services, where he retired after thirty three and a half years. He was a faithful member of Maranatha Tabernacle Church.
Other than parents, Mr. Street was preceded in death by his first wife: Fumiko Street; a son, Jerry Trent Street; two brothers: Phil Street and Hillard Street; three sisters: Gladys Maples, Thelma White and Hazel Brooks.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of eleven and a half years, Sharon Martin Street; one son, Roger Street and wife, Lisa, Jonesborough; one daughter, Lisa Tesneary and husband, Jerry, Limestone; two step-daughters: Rachael Howell and husband, James, Unicoi, Shelley Kerr and husband, Gary, Kingsport; a daughter-in-law, Pam Street, Erwin; seven grandsons: Nick Harris, Dustin Street, Taylor Street, Hayden Howell, Jay Howell, Travis Hensley and Jessee Tesneary; three granddaughters: Drew Dykes and husband, Mat, Johnson City, Lindsey Street, Erwin, and Kristen Street, Jonesborough; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral service for Mr. Street will be held at 8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 11, 2013, from the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend E. L. Wheeler and Reverend Eugene Penland will officiate. Special music will be provided by Queenie Wheeler. Active pallbearers will be Justin Williams, Nick Harris, Jerry Tesneary, James Howell, Gary Kerr, Taylor Street, Brandon Howell and Travis Hensley.
The family will receive friends prior to the service between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Sunday and other times at the residence.
The committal service will be held in Swingle Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 12, 2013. Tennessee Honor Guard consisting of Tennessee Army National Guard and Boone Dam VFW Post No. 4933 will perform military funeral honors. Those attending are asked to meet at Unicoi Funeral Home at 12:30 p.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.
