Arlene "Granny" McInturff, ERWIN

Arlene D. “Granny” McInturff, age 94, 929 Hilemon Ranch Road, Erwin, went home to be with the Lord at 3:57 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at Unicoi County Memorial Hospital.
A lifelong resident of Unicoi County, she was born June 9, 1919, on Tilson Mountain in Flag Pond, Tennessee, the youngest child of ten children of the late LeeRoy Hayes and Nancy Brazilla Clouse Sams.
Mrs. McInturff was a former employee of Industrial Garment and Southern Pottery. She was also former owner and operator of McInturff Grocery on North Elm Street during the ’50s. Mrs. McInturff enjoyed living on the farm, cooking, making biscuits for everyone and working crossword puzzles.
She was the oldest living member of Grace United Methodist Church and was very active in church activities until her declining health prevented her from attending services.
Other than her parents, Mrs. McInturff was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, John A. McInturff, who passed away in 1974; two granddaughters: Annette Hilemon and Sandra Jean Hilemon; a grandson: Michael Alan Hilemon; a special nephew: A.D. “Little Brother” Tittle; grandfather: Tommy Clouse; six brothers: Fred Sams, Harry Sams, Leland Sams, Robert Sams, Frank Sams and Thomas Sams; three sisters: Ruth Tittle, Anna Mae Tipton and Mildred Haun.
She is survived by her daughter: Nancy Hilemon and husband, Ernest “Grady,” a grandson: John G. Hilemon and wife, Anjanette, a great-grandson: John G. Hilemon II, all of Erwin. Special sisters-in-law: Patsy Hampton and husband, Lewis, and Margaret Sue Higgins.
Funeral service for Mrs. McInturff will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2013, from the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Garland James will officiate.
Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Erwin, Anthony Cooper, Dr. T.J. Metcalf, Jonathan Ray, Ronnie Hilemon, Howard Townsend, Jim McKinney, Gary Haun, John Hilemon and John Hilemon II. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Tittle, Bill Newman, Fred Horning, Charles Harris, Lewis Hampton, Harry Britt, Tom Britt, members of Southside Volunteer Fire Department and Medic One crews.
The family will receive friends prior to the service between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Friday and other times at the family home, 929 Hilemon Ranch Road, Erwin.
The committal service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, August 3, 2013, in Evergreen Cemetery. Those attending are asked to meet at the funeral home by 3:30 p.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.
