ERWIN — Harry Lee Sparks, age 84, of Erwin, TN, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at the Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness.
A native of Dante, VA, Mr. Sparks was a son of the late J.C and Thelma Litton Sparks. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served in World War II. Mr. Sparks retired in 1979 from CSX Railroad after many years as a railroad conductor. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sparks was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Sparks, and his twin sister, Mary Lynn Foster.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Sparks, of the home; two sons, Mike Sparks, North Carolina, and Steve Sparks and wife, Debbie, Jonesborough; one daughter, Mary Williams and husband, Tommy, Erwin; seven grandchildren; Three great grandchildren; two sisters, Emmy Gray Richmond, Myrtle Beach, SC, Rita Gilley, Salam, VA; one brother, Wayne Sparks, Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Sparks will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Friday, August 2, 2013 in the chapel of Woodall-Anderson & Dugger Funeral Home with Rev. E.L Wheeler officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. in the chapel of the funeral home.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:30 A.M. Monday, August 5, 2013 at the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the V.F.W Boone Dam Post. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 11:10 A.M. Monday to travel in procession to the cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.wadugger.com.
