Glenda Hagood McKay, age 57, of Johnson City, TN, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013, at the Community Living Center at Mountain Home, TN.
She was a native of Grand Junction Station, Colorado, and a daughter of the late Oral and Bonnie Wright Bosch.
She was a U.S Army Veteran.
Glenda was diagnosed with cancer on the birthday of her youngest daughter in May of 2011. Given her decline of health due to 9 hip surgeries over the preceding two years, doctors gave a pessimistic prognosis. Glenda was treated at the VA Medical Center at Mountain Home. She took treatments that took months to recover from. There was a period of remission, during which Glenda lived life to the fullest, praising her Lord for the blessing of each new day.
Then in December of 2012 it was discovered that the cancer had unfortunately spread to her brain. Again doctors gave her a terminal prognosis. She got to enjoy Christmas and the first half of 2013 without serious impeding symptoms. In April, she got to visit and celebrate her life with her closest and most beloved family members, and had their support as she accepted hospice with a clear sharp mind.
In the preceding months, her decline was more dramatic. Through it all, she stayed true to her faith and thanked the Lord for her very blessed life. When Glenda moved on this past Sunday afternoon, family and friends were left grief stricken, and the doctors and nurses left amazed. Family was not surprised at all by how much grace and dignity she battled her cancer with. Her spirit would not be conquered by a disease. When the doctors estimated her time left, they neglected to factor in her strength of spirit. And it is that spirit we bid farewell to now that she has moved on home.
Glenda will be greeted with open arms by her true love, John McKay; and her Heavenly Father. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John McKay.
Survivors include her two daughters, Jessica Hagood, Knoxville, TN; Christina King, North Carolina. Several grandchildren also survive.
The memorial service for Mrs. McKay will be conducted at 1:30 P.M. Friday, July 26, 2013, in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with a VA Chaplain officiating.
The family will receive friends Friday from 12:30 until 1:30 in the East Parlor of the funeral home.
The graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 P.M. at the Mountain Home National Cemetery.
