Jay Lee Hughes, UNICOI

Jay Lee Hughes, age 79, of Marbleton Rd., Unicoi, TN, passed away July 23, 2013, at Unicoi Memorial Hospital in Erwin, TN.
He was a son of the late Lonas and Mary Hughes and was a retired Truck Driver and Mechanic for Mason Dixon in Kingsport, TN.
He loved to be involved in church work, car races, auctions and talking to friends.
He was a member of the Teamsters Union, Unicoi United Methodist Church and a charter member of Unicoi Volunteer Fire Dept. He was a former Deacon at Unicoi Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Maxie Garland Hughes, of the home; his sister in law, Lena Greene, of Bakersville, NC; devoted cousins, Mike and Carolyn Hoilman and Margaret Hoilman, all of Bakersville, NC, and Allan Hughes, Gray, TN; his brother, Bill Hughes, of Hanover, PA; many nieces and nephews; and his special pit bull dog, Maggie.
He was preceded in death by his son, Tim Hughes; and his sisters, Barbara Bailey and Maxine Riddle.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 8:00 PM in Unicoi United Methodist Church with Dr. Henry Johnson, Reverend Gary Edwards and Mike Penner officiating.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
Interment will be Friday, July 26, 2013, at 1:00 PM at McKinney Cemetery on Highway 261 Bakersville, NC.
