James L. Baker, ERWIN

James L. Baker, 97, passed over in March 2013.
Born in Illinois in July to Easter R. and Calvin C. Baker. He played basketball and graduated high school in Odon, IN. He served in WWII as a Master Sergeant, where his problem-solving skills were a great asset to his company.
He was a devoted husband, loving father and caring man who was fond of traveling and enjoyed gifting friends with his roses and his needlepoint projects.
Besides having great integrity in his dry cleaning business, he volunteered many hours of service, throughout his 60 years in Erwin, TN, to the YMCA and his beloved Centenary Church.
He was preceded in death by his sweetheart and wife of 60 years, Pauline; and his compassionate son, Karl.
He is survived by his daughter, Paula Baker, in AZ; and nieces and nephews: Don Baker and Lois Yoder, of IN, Barbara Engle and John Baker, of NC, Vern Hays and Sonya Stacy, of FL, Sally Keller, in IL, Howard Sherwood, Kay Sherwood, Roger Sherwood, John Sherwood, Warren Viney and Kathleen Baldwin, of KS, Walt Viney, in NM, Norman Walker, in ID, Donald Walker, in NV, Charlotte Jones, in Canada.
Memorial donations may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church or the Erwin YMCA.
