Carl Elrod, JOHNSON CITY

Carl Edmond Elrod, 84, passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2012, at Mountain Home VA Hospital.
A native of Johnson City, he was the son of the late William Leroy and Delilah May Brockwell Elrod.
He was of the Baptist faith. Carl proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborne division during WWII, where he was awarded his Glider Wings and the expert rifle award. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose having earned the Degree of the Pilgram.
In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Lou Elrod Slutter, George F. Elrod, Virgil Elrod Miller, Warren G. Elrod, Harry P. Elrod, Vesta Elrod Harris and Robert J. Elrod.
He is survived by his sons: Byron L. Elrod, Daryl K. Elrod and wife, Audrey Osborne Elrod, Alvin D. Elrod and wife, Sherri Trivett Kay, G. Todd Elrod and wife, Theresa Gilbert Elrod; grandchildren: Benjamin D. Elrod, Michelle Elrod Davis and B. Darius Elrod; great-grandchildren: Benjamin D. Elrod II, Sybil Faith Davis and Zachary B. Elrod; several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to the staff at the VA nursing home and to the VA hospice for their loving care to Carl during his stay there.
A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Carl Edmond Elrod will be conducted at 4:00 PM, Sunday, September 23, 2012, in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services with Chaplain Adam Page officiating.
The family will greet friends in the funeral home chapel from 2:00 PM till the service hour.
A Committal and Interment service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, September 24, 2012, at Mountain Home National Cemetery. All those wishing to attend may meet the family at the funeral home at 1:15 PM Monday. Active pallbearers will be Benjamin D. Elrod, B. Darius Elrod, Bugs Elrod, Scott Elrod, Joe Harris, Chris Rhyne, and Mike Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Harris, Mike Harris, Wayne Elrod, J.B. Johnson, Dana Ramsey, Spencer Pickle.
