Clarence Venton Banner, ERWIN

Clarence Venton Banner, age 87, of Erwin, passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at the Center on Aging and Health.
He was a native of Sullivan County and a son of the late Guard E. and Clara Ford Banner. Mr. Banner was an avid worker and member of Erwin Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Venton was known as the Tag Man. He enjoyed collecting and restoring tags and showing them at the Erwin Autorama.
He was a WWII Veteran, having served as a scout in the United States Army, having fought in the islands of the Pacific. He was employed by Johnson City Water Treatment Plant in Limestone Cove, was co-owner of Erwin Auto Sales and Erwin Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge. He was also an accomplished welder.
In addition to his parents Mr. Banner is preceded in death by sister, Mildred E. Edwards; and brothers, Robert “Bob” Banner and Kenneth Banner.
Venton is survived by: Loving wife of 65 years: Eva Elizabeth Brown Banner, of Erwin; Sisters: Hazel M. Banner, of Mims, Florida, Glenna Rae Banner Ammons and husband, Richard, of Titusville, Florida; Many Nieces and Nephews; Special Friend: Todd Woodson, of White Pine, Tennessee.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 10, 2012, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Reverend Earl Ragland will officiate. Vocal selections will be provided by Reverend James Hughes, Jamie Hughes and the Wisecarvers.
Visitation will be held on Friday from noon until service time at Valley Funeral Home.
A military graveside service will follow at Evergreen Cemetery with the Tennessee National Guard providing military honors. Serving as active pallbearers will be Rodger Banner, Wayne Day, Larry Edwards, John Wright Jr., Dennis Peterson and Harold Edwards. Honorary pallbearers will be Darrell Brown, J.M. Pate, Howard Ollis and Park Arrowood.
