AFTON — Gordon M. Furchess, age 75, of Afton, TN, passed away early Wednesday morning, June 13, 2012, at Johnson City Medical Center.
He retired from Kaydon Corp. after 34 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Mr. Furchess was a faithful member and deacon of Towering Oaks Baptist Church and the Encouragers Sunday School Class. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, Shriner, and member of the Scottish Rite Bodies.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years: Loretta Furchess; son and daughter-in-law: Scott and Sherry Furchess; granddaughter: Nikki Furchess and her special friend: Jonathan Bryant; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Ralph and Laura Furches and Charlie and Helen Furches; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Carlos Bailey, Eddie and Cindy McKinney, Tom and Judy McKinney, Dolores McKinney; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Todd; parents and two sisters.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Friday at Towering Oaks Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. on Friday at the church. Dr. James K. Pierce and the Rev. Dennis Shumate will officiate. Interment will follow in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens.
Active and honorary pallbearers will be men of the Encouragers Sunday School Class.
