Jack Hawkins, UNICOI

Jack E. Hawkins, age 88, of Unicoi, passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2012, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
He was a native of Unicoi County and a son of the late Samuel Millard and Sallie Hessie Lentz Hawkins.
Mr. Hawkins served in the United States Navy in the Pacific during World War II. He was a lifelong member of First Christian Church, where he served on the Board.
Jack also served on the Board of the Clinchfield Federal Credit Union and the Board of Appalachian Christian Village. He retired from the former Clinchfield Railroad as a yard conductor following 37 years of service. He was a Local Union Chairman with United Transportation Union during his railroad service.
Following his retirement, Jack made it his personal mission to assist families of deceased railroad employees, making them aware of benefits available to them through the railroad.
Other than his parents, Jack is preceded in death by his wife in 1995, Margie Hatcher Hawkins; grandson, Thomas Jacob Hawkins; brothers, Millard Hawkins, James “Shug” Hawkins, Phil Hawkins; sisters, Ruth Hawkins, Mabel Hawkins, Beulah Horton, Pearl Miller, Sallie Hawkins; and a special nephew, Richard Berry.
He leaves behind: Daughter: Kris Rosolina and husband, Larry, of Hampton, TN; Son: Gene Hawkins and wife, Janet, of Jonesborough, TN; Grandchildren: Rachel Rosolina, Samuel Rosolina, Joshua Hawkins and wife, Jessica, Daniel Hawkins and Tionna; Great Grandchildren: Alexis Faith Hawkins, Jacob James Hawkins.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 3, 2012, at 7:00 PM at First Christian Church, 307 S. Main Ave., Erwin, TN 37650. Minister William “Bill” Anderson, Dr. Todd Edmondson and Dr. Bill Gwaltney will officiate.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 PM until service time at First Christian Church.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, June 4, 2012, at 10:00 AM at Evergreen Cemetery. Those who will be attending will meet at Valley Funeral Home by 9:30 AM to go in procession to Evergreen Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be David Eunson, Seth Jones, Andy Frazier, Bobby Hatcher, Lou Thornberry and Tommy Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be Samuel Rosolina, Joshua Hawkins, Daniel Hawkins, Everett Allen, Bob Hatcher, George Hatcher, Jack Ingle, Travis Hughes and Gene Frye.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 307 S. Main Ave., Erwin, TN 37650; or to an organization of your choice.
