Vernon Lee Hale, age 89, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 27, 2012, after a lengthy illness.
He was a son of the late Hobart Archie and Mary Pearl Mohlar Hale.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys Louella Fitzgerald Hale, in 1988; three brothers, William “Bill” Hale, Earl S. Hale and Norman B. Hale; one sister, Delta P. Hale Chase; one grandson, David Edward Reedy.
Mr. Hale worked 33 years at TEC, tenite division, he was a member of the United Methodist Church and attended Cornerstone Church of Johnson City. He was a lifetime resident of Washington County and graduated Sulphur Springs High School in 1939.
He enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, canning and bowling.
Mr. Hale is survived by his wife, Dorcas Street Hale; a daughter and son-in-law, Delta S. and Dr. Edward Reedy, of Marietta, GA; grandson, Dr. Myles (Heather) Reedy, of Greenville, NC; great-granddaughter, Adelaide Grace Reedy; stepdaughters, Beth (Jeff) Brown, of Brentwood, TN and Angela Benfield, of Gray, TN; stepsons, Gregory Benfield, of Elizabethton, and Jeffrey Benfield, of Elizabethton; two step granddaughters, Brandi Brown and Natosha Benfield; three step grandsons, Harley Benfield, Shawn Younce, Cody Brown; one sister-in-law, Jean Hale; one brother-in-law, William Chase; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family will serve as pallbearers; honorary pallbearers will be the Senior Sunday School Class of Cornerstone Church.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Amedisys Hospice and Angie Benfield for their love and care of Lee.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. in the Gray Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. with Pastor Barry Burns officiating.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Monte Vista Burial Park, Johnson City, TN, the family requests to meet at the cemetery.
