Maynos Evans Jones, age 88, 441 Fishery Loop Road, Erwin, went to be with his Lord at 6:10 AM Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at NHC Health Care in Johnson City.
He was a lifelong resident of Erwin and a son of the late Charlie and Phoebe Ambrose Jones. Mr. Jones was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was the recipient of honorary pins for perfect Sunday service attendance for 39 years. Maynos was faithful to his church and loved his church family.
Maynos had an unbelievable memory and loved to talk and tell stories from years ago. He was an accomplished guitarist and also played the banjo.
He will be fondly remembered as being an avid bicycle lover! Maynos started riding his bicycle regularly in May 1938. He loved to ride to Tri Cities Airport to watch the planes take off and land as well as riding to Greeneville and Johnson City.
Mr. Jones was a precious man. While in the nursing home he met many friends and loved to visit with them. He loved for people to have prayer with him. Everyone knew and loved Maynos and he will be missed by all his family, friends and the Erwin community.
He is survived by his very special niece, Patty Bryant and husband, Richard, with whom he made his home, Erwin; very special great niece, Lynn Hensley and husband, Kevin, and great-great niece, Erica Hensley, Erwin; two special great nephews: Austin and Lucas Hensley, Erwin; one nephew, Wayne Jones and wife, Roberta, Hampton; eight nieces: DeAnna Clouse and husband, Royce, Arden, NC, Sue Foster and husband, Kenneth, Ruth Jackson and husband, George, and Sandy Tate and husband, Tommy, all of Erwin, Dorothy Arnett and husband, Andy, Hampton, Gail Smith and husband, Bill, and Faye Masters and husband, Tim, all of Unicoi, Lila Tittle, Johnson CIty.
Funeral service for Mr. Maynos Jones will be held at 8:00 PM Saturday, May 26, 2012, from the Erwin Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Garland James and Reverend Billy Byrd will officiate.
Active pallbearers will be Randy Ledford, Kevin Hensley, Arnold Edwards, Charles Griffith, Jack Metcalf, Dr. Paul Hollier, Harold Luttrell and Charlie Griffith Honorary pallbearers will be Austin and Lucas Hensley and Kent Harris.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening prior to the funeral service between the hours of 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. and other times at the residence of his niece, Patty Bryant.
The committal service for Mr. Jones will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, May 27, 2012, in the Fishery Cemetery. Those attending the committal service are asked to meet at the cemetery no later than 12:15 p.m.
