Ricky Bill Odom, 56, of Elizabethton, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital.
He was the son of Bill Odom, Hampton, and the late Joyce White Odom and was born in Carter County. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John and Julie Price White; paternal grandparents, Milburn P. and Grace Odom; and several aunts and uncles.
Mr. Odom was self employed and was considered to be a master builder and jack-of-all-trades. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in the garden. He also loved his dog, Cocoa. Though he enjoyed many things, his greatest legacy was his family and friends.
Mr. Odom was of the Free Will Baptist faith.
In addition to his father, Mr. Odom is survived by two daughters, Tracey Odom, Bluff City, and Candy Odom, Tallahassee, FL; three steps-sons, Stephen Perrigan and his wife, Sunnie, Michael Perrigan and Seth Bennett, all of the home; one sister, Theresa Whitehead and her husband, Jackie, Hampton; five grandchildren, Mason Buckles and Madison Buckles, both of Bluff City, Jacob Queen and Jordan Queen, both of Johnson City, and Klarisa Perrigan, of the home; one niece, Alisha Whitehead, Hampton; one nephew, Shannon Whitehead, Hampton; two aunts, Peggy White Lewis and Shirley White, both of Hampton; and his loving companion of fourteen years, Julie Perrigan, of the home.
The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Friday, May 25th, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Brandon Young and Pastor Buddy Street officiating. Music will be under the direction of Pastor Brandon and Dara Young.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday prior to the service in the chapel and at the residence of a sister, Theresa Whitehead, 128 D.O. Johnson Road, Hampton, at other times.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 26th, in the Odom Family Cemetery in Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be Gary Hughes, John Paul Mathes, Clarence Largent, Johnny Palmer, Harold Cordell, Toby Orton and Stephen Perrigan. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Morton, Scotty Minton, Terry “Mudd” Montgomery, Sam Edwards, Dean Burchet, Marvin Carden, Junior Banner, Johnny Lewis, Grady Hill, Ricky Orton, Buddy Street, Tommy Shingleton, Frank Johnson, Joe Hill, Jack Whitehead, Shannon Whitehead and Roger Combs. Everyone will meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 12:00 Noon on Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery.
