Rick Allen Martin, age 40, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2012, in an accidental house fire.
He was born May 30, 1971, in La Grange, IL, and was the son of John and Maureen Martin.
Rick grew up in the Johnson City area, but graduated from Lockport Township High School, Lockport, IL. Locally he went to Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, TN. Mr. Martin also worked for many years at K-Mart. After high school, he assisted his grandfather, Robert Ballard, a licensed electrician.
He loved family activities, including beach vacations to NC. Rick enjoyed listening to music, reading and gardening. As the oldest grandchild, all of his thirteen cousins looked up to him.
Rick will be deeply missed by his neighbors, who enjoyed his friendly outgoing personality.
Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his mother, Maureen Ann Ballard Martin; his grandfather, Robert J. Ballard; and grandmother, Shirley Panke; and grandfather, Carl Martin.
He is survived by his father, John A. Martin; brother and niece, Michael and Therese Martin. Ricks aunts and uncles are Phyllis Ballard, Kathy Ballard, Jim and Mary Ballard, James and Laura Martin, Wayne Martin, Carla Martin and Dana Martin.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to The National Association of Mental Illness (NAMI).
