Loyd A. Garland Sr., JOHNSON CITY

Loyd A. Garland Sr., 80, Johnson City, passed away Monday May 21, 2012, in the Appalachian Christian Village.
A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late Medford & Lucy Nave Garland. He served in the United States Army. Loyd was a 1949 graduate of Johnson County High School and a 1953 graduate of East Tennessee State University.
He was a retired District Claims Manager with Tennessee Farm Bureau, having worked there for 35 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of Central Baptist Church of Johnson City.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son: Mike Garland, March 8, 2012; and a brother: Sherrill Garland.
Survivors include a daughter & son-in-law: Kay & Doug Lowery, Houston, Texas; A son, Loyd Garland Jr, and his fianceé, Lynda, Gray; His Daughter-in-Law: Cathy Garland, Lynchburg, Tennessee; Five Grandchildren: Ashley Garland, Rachel Garland, Benji Garland, Roman Lowery and Heather Lowery; A Nephew: Keith Garland.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Wilson officiating.
Entombment Service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Mausoleum of Peace, Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Mary Lou O’Quinn. Active Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary Pallbearers will be Employees and former employees of the East Tennessee District of the Tennessee Farm Bureau Insurance Agency.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Friday to go to the cemetery.
