Ray "Gus" Strickland, JOHNSON CITY

Ray “Gus” Strickland, 60, entered into rest, Friday, May 18, 2012, at his residence.
Mr. Strickland was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County.
He was a son of Rosemary Trivette Strickland, Jonesborough, and the late Ernest Jacob Strickland and is also preceded in death by his grandparents.
Mr. Strickland was retired from the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
He was a member of Keystone Free Will Baptist Church.
Mr. Strickland loved fishing, gardening, being outdoors and listening to gospel music.
In addition to his mother, he leaves his wife, Faye Sanders Strickland; two sons, Robbie Strickland and wife, Brandi, Johnson City, Timmy Strickland, Johnson City; grandchildren, Katie Strickland, Jaycob Pectham, Tarynn Arzberger and Carly Strickland; one sister, Linda Tripodi and husband, Tony, Jonesborough; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2012, until a Celebration of Life Service at 7:00 p.m. from the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City. Friends may call at the residence at other times. Pastor Terry Jones and Reverend Bill Greer will officiate.
Committal services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Washington County Memory Gardens. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Active pallbearers will be Gary Wallace, Gary Wallace Jr., Loren Harris, Michael Denton, Chris Thomas and Jesse Hensley. Dr. Phillip Riley, Dr. Michael Ponder and Dr. James Dykes will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family expresses a special thanks to Amedysis Home Health and Hospice for their compassionate care of Mr. Strickland.
