Joan Shaw Scalf, 67, Dandridge, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, after a two year battle with bone cancer.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Lucas and Pauline Campbell Shaw. She was also preceded in death by her Maternal grandparents, Earl & Dessie McNeil Campbell; and Paternal Grandparents, King & Emma Lewis Shaw. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter: Rachel Ann Scalf, in 1997.
Joan was a member of Union Baptist Church, Hampton, and was a member and former Worthy Matron of Hampton Chapter #407 Order of Eastern Star. She was Co-owner of Scalf’s Wholesale Bait.
Joan will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. She was a giving and loving Christian who never met a stranger and loved everyone unconditional.
Survivors include her loving husband of 50 years eleven months and five days, Paul Scalf, of the home; One Daughter: Sonia Jeanice Banner, Hampton; Two Sons & Daughters-In-Law: Anthony & Monica Scalf and Wesley & Genia Scalf, of Dandridge; Six Grandchildren: Linda Clawson, Hampton, Joy Scalf, Jefferson City, John Paul Scalf, Elizabethton, Jason Scalf, Jesse Scalf and Charlie Scalf, of Dandridge; Four Great Grandchildren: Rachel Nelson, Hampton, Jakob Smelcer, Jefferson City, Jason Scalf II, Dandridge, and Ayden Scalf, Elizabethton; Two Sisters: Ann Shankle, Elizabethton, and Helen Campbell and husband, Errol, Hampton. Several Nieces and nephews also survive. Her special friends: Barbara & Sam Grindstaff, Glenda & James Norris, Lee Wayne Price, Debbie Sinard and Ida Hinkle.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James Strickland officiating.
Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Music will be provided by Amanda Strickland, Soloist. Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Friday, will be; Michael Scalf, Jimmy Scalf, Josh Scalf, Jonathan Scalf, John Paul Scalf, Josh Shankle and Wayne Woolland.
The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Dr. Asif Sultan and the staff of Morristown Hamblen Hospital.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of her daughter, Sonia Jeanice Banner, 187 Swimming Pool Road, Hampton. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Friday to go to the cemetery.
