BIG STONE GAP, Va. — Clarence R. (Dee) Begley, 86, passed away Sunday (April 15, 2012) at the James H. Quillen VAMC in Mountain Home, TN.
He was formerly a Superintendent of Mines and a Chief Mining Electrician at Westmoreland Coal Co. He served his country in the US Army of World War ll.
His wife, Eliza Mae Begley, and grandson, Kelly Begley, parents, James Willard and Nancy Elizabeth Brickey Begley, brother, Turp Begley and wife, Hazel, Kenneth Begley and wife, Theola, sisters, Bill David Barnette and Bobby Begley, preceded him in death.
Clarence is survived by his sons, James D. Begley and wife, Becky, of Big Stone Gap, Ernest (Eddie) Begley and wife, Joan, of Fort Worth, Texas, Clarence L. (Buddy) Begley and wife, Thelma, of Big Stone Gap, Va.; his daughters, Elizabeth (Sissy) Seymore and husband, Tom Riddle, of Johnson City, TN, and Patsy Waskey and husband, Lewis, of Richmond, Va. He is also survived by his brothers, Don Begley, of Atlanta, Ga., Frank Begley, of Kingsport, TN; his sisters, Clara Gilley, of Indiana, Jessie Watkins, of Johnson City, Tn, and Shirley Evans, of Pennington Gap, Va.; and also a nephew, Allen Patrick, and many nieces and nephews; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.
The family will receive friends Thursday (April 19, 2012) from 5 to 7 P.M. at Gilliam Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap, Va.
Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with Steve Maddox officiating.
Graveside services will be Friday (April 20, 2012) at 10:00 a.m. in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens, Big Stone Gap, Va., with military graveside rites accorded by Local DAV, VFW Units and the Gate City National Guard unit. Family and friends are asked to meet at 9:30 a.m. at Gilliam Funeral Home to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons; honorary pallbearer will be Master Sgt. Donnie Seymore.
