Maynard Pate, Lebanon

LEBANON — Maynard Pate, age 72, of Lebanon, TN, passed away Sunday evening, April 8, 2012, at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.
Funeral Services for Maynard Pate will be conducted Thursday afternoon, April 12, 2012, at 2 p.m. from the Anderson & Son Funeral Home Chapel in Red Boiling Springs, TN, with Elder Floyd Ferguson officiating.
Interment will follow in the Smith Chapel Cemetery. Chad Guffey, John Zalewski, Jacob Zalewski, Ben Zalewski, Nick Zalewski and John Langford will serve as his pallbearers.
Maynard was born Saturday, September 9, 1939, in Johnson City, TN, the son of the late Thomas Edward and Allie McMackin. On April 14, 1989, he married the former Freda Halsell, who preceded him in death on February 20, 2012.
He graduated from Science Hill High School and received an athletic scholarship to East Tennessee State University, where he received his liberal arts degree. He received his master’s degree from UT Graduate School of Planning.
Maynard was the former Executive Director of the Greater Nashville Regional Council with 20 years of service. He dedicated his life to public service for cities and counties of the State of Tennessee.
Survivors include: step-daughters, Charla (John) Zalewski, Leslie Palk, all of Cookeville; step-son, Greg Biles, Lebanon; step-granddaughter, Holly Palk; step-grandsons, Jacob, Nick & Ben Zalewski, all of Cookeville; brother, Billy Joe (Betty) Pate, sister, Betty Ann Pate Chapman, all of Johnson City; niece, Judy Chapman, Kingsport; nephews, Steve Chapman, Kingsport, Tom Webb, Bristol, Terry Peterson and Tim Conley, Johnson City.
