Helen Poole, Greeneville

Helen Ketron Poole passed away Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Laughlin Healthcare Center, in Greeneville, TN. She was predeceased by her husband, Neil Poole, who passed away in 1991. Kingsport was her home until 2007, when she moved to Greeneville to be close to her family. Born on January 9, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Grace (Bradley) and Joseph Ketron. Her sisters also predeceased her: Betty Jacobs in 2007 and Mary Ross in 2008.
Mrs. Poole had been a very active member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church. She served her church in many ways throughout her membership, including children’s Sunday School teacher, superintendent of the children’s department, member of the senior adult choir, an active circle member, shepherding ministry, active Sunday School attendee, and a very willing participant of the Lunch Bunch Group.
She was an accomplished cook, seamstress, and Girl Scout leader who took her troop of 8th grade Girl Scouts to Washington, D.C. Helen loved trying new things and took classes on how to make pillbox hats, how to paint, and how to tailor clothing. She was also an accomplished wallpaper hanger.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Dominick Jackson. She was Mimi to her grandchildren, Nick and Katie, and later became Mimi to her granddaughter-in-law, Mary. Also surviving are her nieces and nephews, Julia Ross Pearson, Jenny Jacobs Golder, Betsy Ross Clevinger, Susan Jacobs, Jane Ross Strevel, Chuck Ross, and Judy Haynes Griffith.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 from 11:30 -1:00 pm at First Broad Street United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow in the chapel at 1:00 pm with Rev. Jack Weikel officiating.
Interment will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers are Helen’s Sunday School Class, New Fidelis.
