ELIZABETHTON — Charles Douglas (Doug) Stair, 76, Elizabethton, died Monday evening, March 26, 2012, in the Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Charlie & Lucy Merryman Stair.
He is survived by three loving sisters and brothers-in-law: Betty & Eddie Hoover, Glenda & Dick Oatman and Kay & Bill Wilkins, all of Elizabethton; nieces & nephews: Chuck & Rebecca Wilkins, Jennifer & Ken (Butch) Murphy, Dan Wilkins & Richard & Jeannie Oatman. A host of cousins and other relatives also survive.
Doug was a faithful member for more than 60 years of West Side Christian Church, where he served as custodian for 25 years. He was a member of the 90 and 9 Men’s Bible Class and served many years on the Building and Grounds Committee. He was previously employed with Magnavox for 17 years until its closing.
“Charlie” as he was known by many, was an avid race fan and loved to recall the many races he, with family and friends, enjoyed through the years until his health declined. He took great pleasure in family outings and reliving stories of yesteryear. Other hobbies were trips to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, watching television and he was a faithful viewer of C-Span and CNN News. In his earlier years, his daily hangouts were Bob Lipford’s Garage and Ray Lewis’ Service Station.
Funeral Services for Mr. Stair will be conducted at West Side Christian Church at 2 p.m. Thursday.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Greg Key, Minister, will officiate the service with graveside following at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be: Luther McKeehan, Tony Jones, Richard Oatman, Chuck Wilkins, Dan Wilkins, Butch Murphy, Tom Little and T.J. Little. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jim Curtis, Dr. Stanley Vermillion, Elders & Deacons of the church, the 90 and 9 Men’s Bible Class, the entire congregation of West Side Christian Church as well as a host of friends and neighbors of West End and special neighbor, Joann Edmondson.
A special “Thank You” to the doctors, nurses and staff of the 4200 Stroke Center Wing of Johnson City Medical Center for their loving care.

The family will receive friends at the home of Betty & Eddie Hoover, 1207 Burgie Street, Elizabethton.
