Joan Woodby, Unicoi

UNICOI — Joan Lee Jones Woodby, age 66, 230 Riverside Drive, Unicoi, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday evening, March 20, 2012, surrounded by her family.
She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County. Mrs. Woodby was a born again Christian, having been saved in July of 1957. She attended Unicoi Free Will Baptist Church. Mrs. Woodby was a loving and devoted wife, mom, nanny, daughter, sister and friend.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Melissa Vance; grand-daughter, Lydia Vance; daddy, Willie Lee Jones; two brothers, Steve Jones and Elmer Jack Jones.
Mrs. Woodby is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 46 years, Doug Woodby; daughter, Lorrie Cochran and husband, Steve, Unicoi; four grandsons, Reverend Jacob Cochran, Caleb Cochran, Luke Cochran, and William Vance; mother, Lillian Whitehead Jones, Erwin; one brother, Doyle Jones and wife, Evelyn, Unicoi; three sisters, Janet Byrd and husband, Eddie Lee, Unicoi, Joy Lovette and husband, Ronnie, Erwin, Vicky Buchanan and husband, Ricky, Unicoi; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service for Mrs. Woodby will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 23, 2012, at Unicoi Free Will Baptist Church. Her body will be placed in the church for one hour prior to the service. Reverend Steve Bennett and Reverend Jacob Cochran will officiate.
Active pallbearers will be her nephews, Terry Jones, Jerry Jones, Russell Jones, Harold Jones, Jerry Byrd, Chuckie Jones and Shawn Hensley. Honorary pallbearers will be the ladies of Mrs. Woodby’s Sunday School class.
Interment will follow the service in Peterson Cemetery with Reverend Brett Jones officiating and her grandsons participating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel and other times at the family residence.
