Martha Gasteiger, JOHNSON CITY

Martha K. Gasteiger, of Johnson City passed away Saturday, March 10, 2012 at her residence.
She was a daughter of the late Birl and Frances B. Kerley.
Mrs. Gasteiger was a graduate of Science Hill High School and East Tennessee State University. She taught in Washington County and the Johnson City School Systems. She recently retired from teaching kindergarten at Town Acres Elementary, which was her passion. She was also a part-time consultant for Longaberger Basket Corporation.
Mrs. Gasteiger was a former Cub Scout Den Mother and active with the Boy Scouts. She was an active member of Edgefield United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Thomas H. Gasteiger, Jr.; 3 sons, Harrison Gasteiger and wife Jessica of Johnson City, Mark D. Gasteiger of Knoxville, and Joseph L. Gasteiger of Johnson City; three grandchildren, Trey Gasteiger, Olivia Gasteiger, and Luke Gasteiger; two brothers, Dennis Kerley and David Kerley; three sisters, Julia Henry, Janet Banks, and Fran Kerley; two sisters-in-law, Anne Hyder and Caye Shannon and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Mrs. Gasteiger will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 13, 2012 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Pastor Estel Williams officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12 until 2:00 P.M in the East Parlor of the funeral Home. The graveside service will follow at Monte Vista Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Mountain States Hospice, 101 Med Tech Parkway, Johnson City, TN 37604, or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
