Mr. Denny Walter Bowers, 64, of 212 Roy Bowers Road, Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord, on Friday, March 9, 2012, at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness.
He was the son of Gladys Adleen Asher Bowers, of Elizabethton, and the late Luther Darrell Bowers and was born in Carter County.
Mr. Bowers was a 1965 graduate of Unaka High School and retired from the United States Navy following twenty-seven years of service as a Command Master Chief. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W.
He followed Unaka High School basketball and both the men’s and women’s basketball teams at the University of Tennessee with enthusiasm. He loved to fish and hunt and helping people in need. He was a loving husband, father and doting grandfather; his grandchildren were the “apples of his eye.”
He was member of the Blue Springs Christian Church.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Coralie “CoCo” Bowers, of the home; three children, Teresa Anne “Teri” Freeman and her husband, David, Tellico Plains, TN, Deanna Bush and her husband, Brett, Eads, TN, Sgt. Michael Bowers (retired United States Army) and his wife, Karen, Conway, SC; six grandchildren, Adam Bush, PFC Michael Bowers, serving in the United States Army in Fort Drum, NY, Ethan Freeman, Laurin Freeman, Addy Freeman and April Stone; a brother, Jody Bowers and his wife, Lee, Richmond, VA. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Bowers will be conducted on Sunday, March 11, 2012, at 8:00 p.m. in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with Mr. Richard Thomason, minister, officiating.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday prior to the service and at the home at other times.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Monday, March 12, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. in the Bowers Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be the Naval Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Blue Springs Christian Church and his special friends, Cliff “Robbie” Roberts, Tracy Foor, Paul Pealer and Steve Tester. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:50 p.m.
