NICKELSVILLE, Va. — Stonewall Marion (Tony) Babb, 77, of Nickelsville, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 9, 2012, after a lengthy illness.
Tony was born to the late Kenneth and Gladys Babb in the Fort Blackmore community of Scott County, VA, on December 6, 1934.
Tony spent his career in positions at Rental Uniform and the Farmer’s and Cozart Tobacco Warehouses, in addition to being an active tobacco and cattle farmer.
He enjoyed gardening, attending church, and spending time with his family and friends. He attended Rock View Church and was a member of Lawson Memorial Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Lowell Babb; brothers, Rodney and Junior Babb; and in-laws, Melvin and Eva Parks.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Shelby Parks Babb, of the home; daughter, Donna (Dale) Sanders, Hiltons, VA; four grandchildren, Matthew and Kevin Babb, Nickelsville, VA, Justin D. Sanders, Jonesborough, TN, and Sarah (Jim) Robinson, Johnson City, TN; two brothers, Paul (Kathy) Babb, Carters Valley, Ronnie (Linda) Babb, Gate City, VA; four sisters, Jean (Jim) Dean, Nickelsville, VA, Faye (Richard) Anderson, Johnson City, TN, Judy Miller, Kingsport, TN, and Teresa (Carl) Tipton, Rye Cove, VA; sister-in-law, Phyllis Babb, Bristol, TN; brother-in-law, Dougie (Sue) Parks, Nickelsville, VA; sister-in-law, Marsie (Mack) Daugherty, Nickelsville, VA; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday, March 11, 2012, from 4 to 7 PM at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, VA, and anytime at the residence of Donna and Dale Sanders, 229 Holly Oak Lane, Gate City, VA.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2012, at 7 PM in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mack Daugherty, Rev. Kenneth Kiser and Rev. Guy Elam officiating.
Graveside services will be held Monday, March 12, 2012, at 11 AM in the Parks Family Cemetery, Nickelsville, VA. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 AM to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
