Joe Powell, Cowpens, S.C.

COWPENS, S.C. — Joe Willie Powell, 93, of 2152 Battleground Road, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 2, 2012 at his residence.
Born in Cherokee County, he was the husband of Violet Eaker Powell and son of the late Charlie Houston Powell and Ila Inez Scruggs Powell. Mr. Powell retired from Carolina Freight, was a farmer and cattleman and was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, is Rev. James Armstrong who was raised like a son; two brothers, Dennis T. Powell and wife, Mary of Johnson City, TN and Robert K. Powell of Swoope, VA; two sisters, Donalene P. Taylor and Carolyn P. Brown, both of Gaffney; special caregivers, who were loved by the family, Sandy Bridges, Brenda Pye, Tammy Jones, Vicky Gregory and Cheryl Inman.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at Mount Olive Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 PM at the Church with Dr. Robert Kirby and Rev. James Armstrong officiating. Interment will be in the Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will be at the residence.
