Benny "Ray" Humphreys, Johnson City

Benny “Ray” Humphreys, 80, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at his residence.
A native of Watauga, TN, he was the son of the late Eugene Orville and Beulah Mae Bennett Humphreys. He graduated from Boones Creek High School in 1950.
Ray was a United States Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Humphreys was a charter member and elder at Princeton Presbyterian and currently a member at First Christian Church, Johnson City, where he attended the Anchor Sunday School class.
Ray was a member of the Johnson City Masonic Lodge #486. He worked as an electrical designer for many years. During his years as an electrical designer he worked for Tennessee Eastman, Bechtel Engineering, and he owned and operated Delta Electric. After retiring Ray enjoyed working at Tri-Cities Airport.
Ray was an avid pilot and golfer. It gave him great joy in his life when his son-in-law, Bob, received his pilot license. He loved his family and especially his grandchildren. He was a gentle man and his family and friends will miss his kindred spirit.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Humphreys; and a sister, Imogene Barnett.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Marjorie V. Godsey Humphreys, Johnson City; daughters and sons-in-law, Vinette and Brien Crowder, Naples, FL, Donna and Bob Hughes, Johnson City; grandchildren, Tiffany Willis and husband, Scott, Johnson City, Tony Hughes and wife Amanda, Cumming, GA, and Katie Bryant, Knoxville; great grandson, Brenden Hughes; sisters, Wava Rumley, Greeneville, Shirley Friday and Brenda Rhea, both of Johnson City; and his special companion, border collie, Mollie. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Celebration of Life service for Mr. Ray Humphreys will be conducted at 3:30 PM Sunday, March 4, 2012, in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services with Mr. Mike Friday, Minister, and Mr. Steve Hill, Minister, officiating.
The family will greet friends in the funeral home chapel from 1:30 PM till the service hour and at his residence at other times.
A Committal and Interment service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, March 5, 2012, at Mountain Home National Cemetery. All those wishing to attend may meet the family at the funeral home at 10:15 AM Monday. Active pallbearers will be Tony Hughes, Bob Hughes, Scott Willis, Glenn Bowman, Benny Hannah, Gene Jackson, Mick Fowler and Jerry Light. Honorary Pallbearers are Leonard Shepherd, Kelly Godsey, Bill Godsey, Gary Godsey, Donnie Shepard, Bill Bradley, Fred Simerly and Graham Banister.
