Goldie Bevins, Johnson City

Goldie Wyatt Bevins, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at Johnson City Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Nellie Wyatt; husband, Ernest Lee Shelley; husband, George W. Bevins; and including six siblings. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She has resided for the past several years as a resident of Appalachian Christian Village, where she was known as “Cracker Jack.” Goldie loved sewing, gardening and working crossword puzzles. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Marie Blevins and husband, George, of Marion, VA, Beverly Greer, of Kingsport, TN, Pat Cox and husband, Henry, and Sharon R. Bevins, all of Canton, GA; two sons, Clifford E. Shelley and wife, Janet, of Salem, VA, and Ernest L. Shelley Jr. and wife, Kathryn, of Roanoke, VA; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Appalachian Christian Village for the kind and loving care of their mother.
The funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 3, 2012, in Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Mark Ross officiating.
Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 P.M. Saturday prior to the service.
