Patricia Brown, Kingsport

KINGSPORT — Patricia Stevens Pendergrast Brown, 84, of Kingsport, passed away on Tuesday evening, February 28, 2012, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a long illness.
She was born and raised in Dyersburg, TN, was a former resident of Newburn, Greeneville, Johnson City and had lived in Kingsport for the past 10 years.
Mrs. Brown was former director of the First Tennessee Area Agency on Aging, retiring in 1994. She was Past President of the Johnson City Rotary Club and a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church, where she was active with the United Methodist Women.
She loved and enjoyed her grandchildren and gardening. Patricia was a “people person,” loving and loved by many.
She was preceded in death by her son, Nolen S. Pendergrast, who died on Jan. 19, 2012; her mother, Celine Delvecchio Stevens; father, Bertrand Peyton Hodge; brother, Bertrand P. Stevens; and sister-in-law, Joanne S. Locklear.
Survivors include her daughter, Celine P Cross & husband, Kyle, of Kingsport; son, Craig P. Pendergrast & wife, Kathy, of Cain Ridge, TN; step daughter, Meridee B. Barnes & husband, Eddie, of Greeneville, TN; seven grandchildren, E. Celine Thackston & husband Matt, John B. Pendergrast & wife, Jen, Alex P. Pendergrast & wife, Alyssa, Patricia K. Pendergrast, Megan M. Hardwick & fiancé, Oliver Whitman, Robert P. (Robb) Cross and Caitlyn E. Cross; step grandson, W. Zackary Barnes; a great grandson, Nolen Pendergrast; a great grandchild Thackston anticipated in August; three nieces; one nephew, and numerous special friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 2, 2012, at First Broad Street United Methodist Church Chapel, 100 E. Church Circle, Kingsport, with Rev. Mickey W. Rainwater and Rev. Jack Edwards, officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
A graveside service will be held at on Sunday, March 4, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Dyersburg, TN, with Dr. David Russell, officiating.
