HIGH POINT, N.C. — Joyce (Gillenwater) Mottern, 76, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at River Landing at Sandy Ridge.
She was the loving wife of John “Jack” Wallace Mottern, to whom she was married 55 years.
Mrs. Mottern was born on August 24, 1935, in Kingsport, TN, a daughter of the late Jay King and Ann Muriel (Young) Gillenwater. She was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School, Kingsport, TN, and continued her education at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, earning a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Chemistry and a Master’s Degree in Mathematics.
A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 26, 2012, in Oak Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, 800 Truxton Drive, Kingsport, TN 37660 with the Rev. Joe-d DowlingSoka officiating.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Mottern is survived by a son, Robert Mottern and his wife, Mari L. Myer, of Atlanta, GA; a daughter, Susan “Dee Dee” Hicks, of Takoma Park, MD; two brothers, John Gillenwater and his wife, Ann, of Bristol, VA, and Jay Gillenwater and his wife, Shirley, of Charlottesville, VA; two grandchildren, Jacquelyn S. and Daniel J. Mottern, both of Atlanta, GA; three nieces; and two nephews.
