Nila Friday, Gray

Nila M. Friday, 84, of Gray, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday February 14, 2012, at her home with her husband, Ralph C. Friday, and their family by her side.
Nila M. Friday was born August 24, 1927 in Washington Co. TN. She was the daughter of the late Bidge and Susie Hodges Cash. Nila was one of 7 children along with James “Tig,” French, Vernon, Anna Mae, Carl and Dean. Nila was the last of her family. She lived in the Oak Grove area of Washington Co. TN all her life. She received her education at Hodges School on Boring Chapel Rd., Oak Grove School, and Boones Creek School through 11th Grade. Nila worked at North Electric, Bristol Defense Plant during the war, and retired from Eastman to raise her family
After their first date at Davis Spring in Unicoi Co. at a prayer gathering, Nila and Ralph were inseperable and later married on September 2nd, 1951. They honeymooned at Lookout Mountain in Atlanta, GA and were happily married for the next 60 years. Their children are Denny Friday and his wife Gay Friday of Gray, and the late David Friday of Gray. Grandchildren Becky Donahue and her husband Eric Donahue of Kingsport, Jamey Friday and his Wife Jennifer of Gray, and Suzanne Vannoy and her husband Chad Vannoy of Boones Creek, and 7 Great Grandchildren, Tori, Madison, Meghan, Anthony, Natalie, Haley and Luke.
Nila and Ralph are long time active members of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Gray, TN where Nila was a member of the choir, WMU and taught JR Boys for an number of years. She was Secretary of her class. Nila was saved at age 15 at a Wednesday night prayer meeting where Roy Boyer was speaking. She lived her Christian life to the fullest. Nila was also den mother for a number of years while her boys were in scouts. Her greatest joy of late was cooking a big meal and having all of her family together. Nila cherished her family and her faith throughout her life. She is the heart of the family and will be sorely missed.
Receiving Friends will be held at Snyder’s Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday February 16th, 2012 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm followed by Funeral officiated by Harold McNabb and Evangelist Charles “Toonie” Cash. Scripture read by David Gschwind. Graveside Service will be held at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Gray, TN at 11:00am on Friday, February 17th, 2012. All those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Snyder’s Memorial Gardens, funeral home at 10:30am to go to the cemetery in procession.
