George Renfro, JOHNSON CITY

George W. Renfro, 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, in Johnson City, Tennessee.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at 2 p.m. The service will be at Washington County Memory Gardens in the Mausoleum Chapel.
George was born in Mitchell County, North Carolina, to parents Charles Renfro and Dollie (Whitson) Renfro. After graduating from Tipton Hill High School, he attended the Atlanta Barber College, which began his lifelong career as a barber in Johnson City.
Married to Chequita Hope (Webb) Renfro, George and Chickie became much beloved staples of the Carter Family Fold, attending and volunteering at nearly every weekly show for over 35 years.
George is survived by his wife, Chequita Renfro; his sons, David and Douglas Renfro; daughter-in-law, Joyce (Potter) Renfro; daughter-in-law, Helen McLean; sister-in-law, Polly Renfro; nephews, Mark Renfro and Mike McInturff; and grand-daughter, Hannah Renfro.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Renfro; and sister, Lucy (Renfro) McInturff.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
