Joyce Shoun, Johnson City

Joyce G. Shoun, age 84, of Johnson City, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2012, at her residence.
Mrs. Shoun was originally from North Middletown, KY, the daughter of the late Fred and Mabel Wharff Gardner. She was a member of First Christian Church for 62 years, a charter member of the Win-a-Kuple Sunday School Class, and a longtime choir member there.
Mrs. Shoun met her late husband of 59 years, Billy Shoun, while attending Milligan College, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree.
Mrs. Shoun worked for many years alongside her husband at the Nat D. Shoun Insurance Agency. She and Bill enjoyed square dancing for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy J. Shoun, in November 2009.
Survivors include her two daughters, Susan Shoun, Johnson City, Barbara Boswell and husband, Bill, Jonesborough; three grandchildren, Brad Boswell and wife, Erin, Jackson, TN, Tim Boswell and Rachael Boswell, both of Jonesborough; one nephew; and several nieces.
The funeral service for Mrs. Shoun will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 11, 2012, in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Dr. Eugene Wigginton officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Mike Imboden.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 until 2:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of Appalachian Funeral Home.
The graveside service and interment will follow the funeral service at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Brad and Tim Boswell, Danny Van Dyke, George Walker, Wylie Milhorn, Mark Hornsby and Kent Walker.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to First Christian Church, Building Fund, 200 E. Mountcastle Dr., Johnson City, TN 37601.
