Preston Gardner, GRAY

Preston Howell Gardner, age 55, of Gray, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, February 2, 2012, at his home.
He was a son of Phyllis Shipley Gardner and the late Petie Gardner.
Preston was born in Sullivan County and was a 1974 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and a 1983 graduate of ETSU. Preston was a helicopter pilot and Captain with the United States Marine Corps. He had his final review at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, SC, he won his wings in Pensacola, Fl, then transferred to Mag 16 Tustin, CA FFT to New River, NC, to fly the CH-53E.
In addition to his mother, Phyllis Gardner, Preston is also survived by his fiancée, Kris Rafferty; one sister, Deborah Chandler, of Gray; one brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Richard Gardner, of Hilton Head, SC; one niece, Cara Gardner; three nephews, Dennis Gardner, Jason Chandler and Bobby Chandler; many special cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends Monday from 5-7 p.m. in the Gray Funeral Home Chapel.
Graveside services with Military Honors will be held Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Mountain Home National Cemetery.
