Betty Jean Peters Lewis, age 71, of Jonesborough formerly of Elizabethton, went to be with her husband following an extended illness Thursday, February 2, 2012, at her residence.
A native of Johnson County, she was the daughter of the late Willard Spencer and Winnie Mae Robertson Peters.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin “Red” Lewis Jr.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Tyree and husband, Dean, Jonesborough; a son, Jeff “Bo” Lewis, Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Daniel Lewis, Kim Rhymer, Emily Rhymer, Brittany Hale and husband, Chance, and Natasha Mitchell and husband, Jack; two great-grandchildren, Zaden Mitchell and Maci Hale; three sisters, Carol Street and husband, Evans, Cincinnati, OH, Anna Ruth Wood, Johnson City, and Charlene Rogers and husband, Jim, Tyner, KY; and two brothers, Robert Peters and wife, Belle, New Carlisle, OH, and Dana Peters and wife, Geraldine, Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral service for Betty Jean Peters Lewis will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, February 5, 2012, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Steve Hillman officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00-4:00 P.M. on Sunday prior to the funeral service.
Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 6, 2012, in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:50 A.M. on Monday for the graveside service.
