Thelma Bilbrey, Jonesborough

Thelma Crumley Bilbrey, 83, Jonesborough, died unexpectedly Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at her home.
Mrs. Bilbrey was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County.
She was a daughter of the late Philip Roger and Cornelia Ella Murr Crumley.
Mrs. Bilbrey retired from Olan Mills as a District Manager following seventeen years of service.
She was a Charter Member of Grace Baptist Church, where she was the long time pianist and formerly taught the Women’s Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Bilbrey was well known for her southern hospitality, cooking and piano playing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of forty-nine years, Albert L. Bilbrey; one brother, Robert “Bob” Crumley; six sisters, Goldie Murr, Francis Crumley, Nina Teague, Mildred Howard, Mary Sue Jacobs and Reba Reece; and a son-in-law, William Sanford.
Mrs. Bilbrey is survived by her son, Darrell Bilbrey, Jonesborough; her three daughters, Sharon Good and husband, Charles, Jonesborough, Deborah Sanford and Karen Durham and husband, Jay, all of Cleveland, TN; sister, Iris Widner and husband, Johnie; brother-in-law, Wayne Bilbrey, NC; grandchildren, Angie Smith, SC, Laura Blake and Leslie Judson, both of Knoxville, Philip Barnett, Jonesborough, Candace Whisman, Lauren and Ryan Durham, all of Cleveland, William Meeks, FL, and Angel Williams, GA; great-grandchildren, Erin and Davis Blake, Knoxville, Maddox Durham, Ashton Anderson and Ellie Whisman, all of Cleveland; several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Nancy Barnett, niece and caretaker, and Anna Collins, caretaker and friend, for their excellent service to mom. Nancy became “one of the kids” and Anna was “just like a sister” to mom.
Also the family would like to thank Gentiva Home Health Services (Pat and Jay), Davita Dialysis Center, Dr. Lisa Broyles and Dr. Michael Ponder for outstanding care of our mother. Our mother held all in the highest of regards and spoke lovingly of each often.
The funeral service will be conducted Thursday, February 2, 2012, at 7:00 P.M. from the East Chapel of the Appalachian Funeral Home with Dr. Allen Davis officiating and lifelong friend Hiram Rash to speak.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Thursday in the East Parlor of the funeral home.
The graveside committal service will be held Friday at 11:00 A.M. in McCarty Cemetery, Jonesborough. Active pallbearers will be Darrell Bilbrey, Philip Barnett, Charles Good, Ryan and Jay Durham and Randy Hottinger. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert McGee, Dallas Barnett, Douglas Blake, Justin Judson and Andy Morris. Those planning to attend are to meet at the funeral home by 10:15 A.M. Friday to proceed to the cemetery.
