BANNER ELK, N.C. — William Lester Puckett Jr., age 82, of Banner Elk, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2012, at Watauga Medical Center.
A native of Avery County, he was born August 26, 1929, a son of the late William Lester and Carrie Chappell Puckett Sr.
He was a member of Temple Baptist Church, where he taught the Adult Sunday School Class for 34 years.
William owned the Apple Orchard in Banner Elk.
Along with his parents, William was preceded in death by: a son, David Puckett; brothers, Herman Puckett, Maxwell Puckett, Frank Puckett.
William has left to cherish his memory his: wife, Shirley, of the home; sons, Stephen and Deborah Puckett, of Banner Elk, Thomas Puckett, of Banner Elk; daughters, Linda and Robert Hertler, of Miami, FL, Elizabeth Ann “Betty” and Forrest Ritchey, of Winston-Salem, Martha and Joe Hartley, of Roan Mtn., Theresa Puckett, of Marion; brother, Chester and Jean Puckett, of Banner Elk; daughter-in-law, Pam Puckett, of Chattanooga, TN; sister-in-law, JoAnn Puckett, of Montgomery, AL; 14 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for William Lester Puckett will be conducted on Thursday, January 12th, at 11:00 a.m. at Temple Baptist Church with Rev. Luther Carver, Rev. Timothy Ruppard and Rev. Forrest Ritchey officiating.
Interment will follow in the Mount Calvary Church Cemetery. Friends may call at the home.
