Richard Burnette, Johnson City

Mr. Richard Lee Burnette, Esq., died at his home in Johnson City, November 18, 2011. 
Richard was native of Richmond, VA, but spent most of his life in Johnson City. He was the son of Dr. Harold W. Burnette, of Johnson City, and the late Betty Clements Burnette.
Richard was a graduate of the University School and East Tennessee State University, where he earned a degree in Criminal Justice. After working for a number of years with teens at the Johnson City Juvenile Detention Center and Sullivan House, Richard returned to school and earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1998. He was admitted to the Tennessee State Bar in 1999, and practiced law as a personal defense attorney in Tennessee until his death.
In addition to his mother, Richard was preceded in death by an infant brother, Reginald Lewis Burnette; and an infant sister, Renee Louise Burnette.
He is survived by two brothers, Ronald Lester Burnette and his wife, Rebecca Kane, of Gray, and Robin Lynn Burnette and his wife, Jenny Summers, of Nashville; and two sisters, Rebecca Burnette Martinez and her husband, Jan, of Raleigh, NC, and Rochelle Lara Burnette, of Johnson City; as well as five nieces and nephews.
Richard was a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed.
A service to remember and celebrate his life will be held Saturday, January 14, 2012, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. Richard’s family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m., with a service to follow at 6 p.m. with Rev. Deven Johnson officiating.
