Julia Cousin, Johnson City

Julia Mae Cousin, age 93, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 5, 2012, at Appalachian Christian Village Nursing Home.
She was born March 27, 1918, in Birmingham, AL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Cousin; parents; sister, Katherine Foster; and brothers; Albert, Jessie, Percy and Frank Harris.
Julia Mae was a member of Grace Temple Church Eternal Life Center, where she participated in various capacities. She was an honorary member of the House of Representatives for the State of Tennessee during Gov. Ned Ray McWherther’s term. She was a previous President for Women’s Christian Temperance Union.
She was well known for her civic and community leadership and a mother to all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughters, Hattie (Tommy) Barkley and Bertha Swepson; sons, Samuel D. (Dana) Stuart, Willie James (Gail) Stuart and Charles Edward (Ann) Stuart; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; special extended family members and life-long friend, Mrs. Pinky Horton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Grace Temple Church Eternal Life Center in ℅ Julia Cousin Memorial Library, 208 Garden Dr., Johnson City, TN 37604.
Funeral Services will be held at 7 PM Sunday, January 8, 2012, at Grace Temple Church, 208 Garden Drive, with Dist. Elder Mark Redd officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 10 AM Monday, January 9, 2012, at the V.A. National Cemetery, Mountain Home.
The family will receive friends from 6 PM until 7 PM Sunday prior to the services at the church.
