Orlanda Wycliffe Jones, age 88, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2012 at Appalachian Christian Village in Johnson City, TN. Mr. Jones was born in Erwin, TN on July 12, 1923, a son of the late Hiram and Carrie Miller Jones. Orlanda was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in both the European and Pacific Theaters of World War II. After returning from military service, he married the love of his life Lena Phillips in 1946. Orlanda worked for the Clinchfield/CSX Railroad for 37 years, retiring in 1983 as Superintendent of the Railroad. Orlanda served as Choir Director for 50 years at Trinity Freewill Baptist Church and later for 7 years at Maranatha Tabernacle.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters, Eva Hughes and Nora Oaks, brothers, Clarence, H. A. and Charlie Jones and son Freddie Jones.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: Sons: Terry and Elna Jones of Jonesborough, TN; Tracy and Jayne Jones of Orange Park, FL; Brothers: David and John Jones, both of Erwin, TN; Sisters: Betty Lou Atkins and Mary Elizabeth Hughes, both of Erwin and Melba Beatrice Sneed of Adrian, MI; Grandchildren: Terry William Jones, Jessica Walters, Christie Johnson, Matthew Jones, Beth McKinney and Quentin Jones; 16 Great Grandchildren.
The Funeral service for Orlanda Wycliffe Jones will be held at 8:00 PM, Wednesday, January 4, 2012 in the chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Rev. Kyle Tipton will officiate and vocal selections will be provided by Larry Dugger. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until service time on Wednesday in the chapel of Valley Funeral Home. A committal service will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 11:00am in the Mausoleum Chapel of Evergreen Cemetery. Those attending the committal service are asked to meet at Evergreen Cemetery by 11:00 am on Thursday. Active Pallbearers will be Tracy Jones, Terry Jones, Terry W. Jones, Terry W. Jones, Jr, Matthew Jones, Quentin Jones, Michael Phillips, Jonathan Jones and Noah Jones. Honorary Pallbearers will be David Jones, John Jones and Dr. Chad Johnson.
