Douglas Kresge, Johnson City

Douglas Cory Kresge. 88. Johnson City passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2011 in the Johnson City Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
A native of Elkhart, Indiana he was a son of the late Stanley L. & Marie Gibbs Kresge and Grandson of the late Sebastian S. Kresge founder of S.S. Kresge Five & Dime Store.
He attended Ohio State University. He had lived in Johnson City since March of 2007.
He was preceded in death by two brothers James and Stanley, one sister: Caroline and One Step-Son: Donald Kiser.
Mr. Kresge served as an Aviator in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Kresge was a member and Past Master of the Masonic Lodge, Three Rivers, Michigan, and a member of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine in Saladin Temple, Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was a lifetime member of the Elk Lodge # 425, Elkhart, Indiana. He was a member of the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Elkhart, Indiana and attended Watauga Point United Methodist Church, Elizabethton.
Survivors include his loving wife of 42 years: M. Ellen VanHorn Kresge of the home. One Daughter: Cathy Kresge Trost and husband John, Elkhart, Indiana. One Step-Daughter: Susan Kiser Hill, Johnson City. His Granddaughters: Kristin Harmon and husband Chad, Elkhart, Indiana, Debra Williams and husband Jack, Gray, Tn. Grandson: Stephen Zollinger, Gray, Tn. Granddaughter: Shelley MaGuire and husband Anthony, Dillon, Colorado. Great Granddaughter: Ashley-Lauren. Great Grandson: Aaron Harmon, Elkhart, Indiana. Great Granddaughter: Jessica Denney and husband Scott, Kingsport, Tn. A Great Grandson: Andrew Williams and fiancé Crystal Lewis, Gray, Tn. Great Grandson: Matt Zollinger, Bluff City, Tenn. Great Grandson: Ryde MaGuire, Dillon, Colorado. One Great Great Grandson: Cole Austin Denney, Kingsport, Tenn. His special friend and neighbor: Joyce McKeehan.
It was his wish to be cremated and a memorial service be held at a later date.
The family would like to express a special “Thanks” to the Staff of Johnson City Medical Center for their excellent medical care.
