Gladys ‘Jo’ Mottern, Jonesborough

Mrs. Gladys Josephine “Jo” Mottern, age 82, Jonesborough, devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother passed away following a lengthy illness on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at her residence.
Mrs. Mottern was a native of Washington County and daughter of the late Joseph & Vida Love Garden. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mottern was also preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny Garden and Joseph “Junior” Garden and one grandson, James Archer.
She was a retired Registered Nurse, having worked at Johnson City Memorial Hospital, Swingles Hospital, Jones Ear Nose and Throat Hospital, Soldiers and Saylors Home (Sandusky, Ohio) just to mention a few. She was a past president and member of the American Business Association and named Woman of the Year in 1973.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, James Willis Mottern, Jonesborough; daughter and son-in-law, Ann & Howard Archer, Jonesborough; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne & Margaret Campbell, Johnson City; sister, Dura Jean Kelly, Boynton Beach, Florida; grandson, Dustin Campbell, Johnson City; granddaughter, Rachel Schlobohm, Jonesborough; great-grandson, Nathan Archer, Jonesborough; one sister-in-law, Savannah Garden, Johnson City; and several nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2011 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home.
Interment services will be conducted 11:00 am Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Washington County Memory Gardens with Rev. Lenny Smith officiating.
Pallbearers will be family & friends.
