ABINGDON, Va. — Mr. Mainard Scott “Curly” Kiser, 83, of Abingdon, VA, passed away on Wednesday, Dec 28, 2011, at Johnson City Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Tim. 4:7.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and worked for Pittston Coal Company for 41 years.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie Owens Kiser, his father, Beldon Utah Kiser, and one brother, Derl Kiser.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Virginia Mustard Kiser, his son, James Scott Kiser and wife Lana; his sisters, Audrey Kennedy, Yvonne Sweeney; one special brother, Ronald Kennedy and wife Ginger; three grandchildren, Daniel Scott Kiser, Ryland Quillen, and Olivia McConnell and one great grandchild, Mataya McConnell.
The family would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to the 5500 floor of Johnson City Medical Center, Life Care Center of Gray, and Wellington Place of Johnson City.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 30, 2011, at 7:00 p.m. in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Lynn Vanover officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service.
Family and friends will be gathering for an entombment service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2011, in the Colonial Chapel Mausoleum of Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Military Honors will be conducted by the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard Honor Guard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Kiser, Ryland Quillen, Evan Mustard, Jody Cussins, Parkis Kennedy and Sam Mullins.
