Lloyd ‘Wad’ Grindstaff, Elizabethton

ELIZABETHTON — Lloyd Landon “Wad” Grindstaff, 75, of Elizabethton, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at his home.
He was the son of the late Robert “Bo” and Tilda Ensor Grindstaff and was born in Carter County.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Elden Grindstaff, and three sisters, Lela Southerland, Bertie Ruth Milhorn and an infant sister, Claire Grindstaff.
Mr. Grindstaff was a proud veteran, having served his country in the United States Army. He worked many years at Tri-State Container and also was a farmer. Mr. Grindstaff was a member of Dungan Chapel Baptist Church.
He is survived by two brothers, Owen Grindstaff and his wife, Dee; Marvin Grindstaff and his wife, Phyllis; four sisters, Alma “Tops” Kehrli; Mary Lewis and her husband, John; Lois Carver and her husband, Roger; his sister with whom he lived, Virginia Grindstaff; a brother-in-law, Bill Milhorn and an aunt, Lela Bailey. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, including a special cousin and friend, Glen Ensor, also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Grindstaff will be conducted on Friday, December 30, 2011 at 7:00 PM at the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton with Rev. Eric Heaton and Rev. Dolph Robinson officiating. Music will be under the direction of Joyce Salyer. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday prior to the service.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Saturday, December 31, at 11:00AM in the Ensor Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Josh Ensor, Nicholas Lyons, Mickey Taylor, Aaron Pendergast, Brandon Pendergast, Randy Grindstaff and Michael Southerland. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Nidiffer, Javy Taylor, Denny Bishop, Tom Oxendine, Randy Lyons, Bo Ensor, Bobby Jo Grindstaff, Richard Lewis, Dwight Proffitt and Eugene Grindstaff. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post #49.
Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 AM Saturday to in procession to the cemetery.
