Charles ‘Boge’ Dyer, Johnson City

Mr. Charles Grayson “Boge” Dyer, 83, Johnson City, loving husband, proud father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and faithful man of God went to be with his personal Lord and Savior on Monday, December 26, 2011.
He was a member of Boones Creek Christian Church where he touched many lives through his Christian faith and witness of service as a Trustee, Elder, Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and Teacher of the Homebuilders Class.
Mr. Dyer was a 1946 graduate of Boones Creek High School, and a 1950 graduate of The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, with a degree in Animal Science. He was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity receiving runner-up honors for Herdsman of the Year in 1965. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1951-1963. Mr. Dyer has been an active member with the Washington County Soil Conservation District from 1986 until the time of death, and held such offices as Chairman and Vice Chairman. He was a founding member of the East Tennessee Angus Association.
His lifetime occupation was a nationally known American Angus producer located in the Boones Creek community. After farming, he enjoyed traveling – always planning the next camping trip. Mr. Dyer was an avid UT fan attending games, watching on TV, or listening on the radio – his favorite color was orange.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Cecil Dyer and Louise Keefauver; Ann Dyer, the mother of his children; and sister, Carolyn Cecilia Letz.
Mr. Dyer is survived by his wife, Joanne Dyer; daughter, Patricia Ann Bolton and Dr. Bill Dykes, Jonesboro; son, Charles Cleveland Dyer and wife, Kathy, Johnson City; two grandsons, Nicholas Allen Bolton and wife, Amy, Johnson City, and Charles Clinton Dyer, Johnson City; great-grandson and “apple of his eye” Hudson Alexander Bolton, Johnson City; two sisters, Margie Boughen, Dana Point, California, and Julia Ann Leonard and husband, Carl, Knoxville; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a very beloved blended family.
A funeral service for Mr. Charles Grayson “Boge” Dyer will be conducted on Saturday, December 31, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Boones Creek Christian Church, 305 Christian Church Road, Johnson City, TN, with David Clark, Minister, and Dick Morris, Assistant Minister, officiating.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 31, 2011, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 Noon and from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at the church. Interment and graveside will follow at Monte Vista Memorial Park in Johnson City. Active Pallbearers will be Ed Bowman, John Payne, Mike Lewis, Ron Dawson, Jimmy Love, and Dave Bellamy. Honorary Pallbearers will be Elders and Deacons of Boones Creek Christian Church, Homebuilders Sunday School Class, Board Members of Washington County Soil Conservation District, Freddie Squibb, Rigby Harvey, Don Leonard, Carl Kincheloe, Dean Crumley, Sam Widener, and Lawrence “Monk” Crouch.
