Robert L. “Bob” Larimer, 72, 881 Young Rd., Unicoi, formerly of 115 Circle Dr., Gray, died Friday, December 23, 2011, at the Center on Aging and Health, Erwin, following a brief illness.
Bob was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County.
He was a son of the late Christopher C. Larimer and Sarah Marie Feathers Larimer Milne.
Bob retired from the City of Johnson City in 1993 where he was employed as a fireman and driver with the Johnson City Fire Department for twenty-seven years.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a Baptist.
Bob was a member of the International Association of Firefighters Local #1791 and the Unaka Rod and Gun Club.
He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed shooting, horseback riding, farming, riding motorcycles and NASCAR.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his step-father, Jack Milne and one sister, Peggy Hensley.
He is survived by his son, Robert Brett Larimer and wife Connie, Unicoi; his step-son, Marty Swartz and wife Heather, Kingsport; his brother, Harry Lee Larimer and wife Phyllis, Gray; a sister, Anna Jane Dean, Jonesborough; three granddaughters, Katie Larimer, Unicoi, Ashley Larimer, Johnson City, and Brittany Simerly, Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews.
The memorial service for Bob will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at 7:00 P.M. in the East Chapel of the Appalachian Funeral Home, with his nephew, Father Chris Larimer officiating.
The family will receive friends Tuesday prior to the service from 5:00-7:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home. Honor Guard will be provided by the Johnson City Fire Department.
