‘CD’ Spain, Gray

Charles D. “CD” Spain, 92, passed on Monday, December 19, 2011, at his home in Gray, Tennessee, after a brief illness.
CD was born and raised in the Chattanooga, Tennessee, area until he moved to Gray in 2003. Most of his work life was in the sales and advertising business, having worked early on for Gilman Paints and eventually retiring from National Posters and the National Group in Chattanooga as Vice President of Sales.
CD was proud to have been a veteran on the United States Air Force. Maintaining a lifelong interest in aviation he was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and held a private pilot’s license for many years.
CD was also a lifelong member of the American Legion, William E. Blair Post 95, in East Ridge, Tennessee. He is predeceased in death by his father, Charles D. “Charlie” Spain; and mother, Mable Henry Spain; by a sister, Katherine Spain; and two brothers, Jack K. Spain and William E. “Bill” Spain.
Survivors include his daughter, Katherine R. Spain Sells and son-in-law, Danny D. Sells. He is also survived by two brothers, LeBron “Pete” Spain and John K. “Buddy” Spain; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at the Chattanooga Funeral Home on Moore Road in East Ridge, Tennessee.
Interment will be at the Chattanooga National Cemetery on Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at 11:30 a.m.
In-lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor his love for his special canine friends and companions by making a donation to your local animal shelter, animal rescue or humane society.
