Jim McNabb, Erwin

ERWIN — Jim McNabb, age 63, died Wednesday, December 21, 2011, after a brave and amazing fight against cancer.
He was a native of Erwin, Tennessee, and a son of the late Geneva Tipton and James Harry McNabb.
He is survived by his loved companion and wife of 42 years, Janet Randolph McNabb. Jim is also mourned by his children: Lori C. McNabb and husband, Joseph Ropson, Joshua M. McNabb, Adam R. and wife, Sarah McNabb. Jim was the proud grandfather of Kellen W. McNabb Ropson and memories of grandpa will be treasured. Jim is also survived by his mother-in-law, Ruth Randolph; and two siblings: Tammy McNabb and husband, James Leonard, and Eldora “Pug” McNabb.
Jim’s extended family, friends and colleagues share in the loss of this loving, funny, intelligent, and supportive man.
Jim served his family, community and country as a Vietnam Veteran, Army Sergeant First Class, and as a registered nurse. He traveled the world during his military service.
He returned to Erwin to begin a second career as a registered nurse, graduating from East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1989.
He enjoyed reading, traveling, and sharing his Scottish heritage through regional highland festivals.
He was a member of Lily Dale Church of Christ and also attended First Baptist Church of Erwin.
Per his wishes, Jim’s remains have been cremated. All friends and family are invited to a memorial service celebrating his life on Friday evening, December 23, 2011. Visitation will be held at 6:00 P.M. in the old sanctuary of the First Baptist Church, Erwin, Tennessee, with the memorial service beginning at 7:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jim’s memory to the Unicoi County Animal Shelter, 185 N. Industrial Drive, Erwin, TN 37650; or to fund scholarships of ETSU’s College of Nursing, University Advancement, P.O. Box 70721, Johnson City TN 37614.
