Bertha McCurry, Erwin

ERWIN — Bertha Alice McCurry, age 102, of Erwin, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at the Center on Aging and Health.
She was a native of Aderia, VA, and a daughter of the late Peter and Mandy Spence Alexander. She was a former employee of Southern Pottery and Industrial Garment. She was the oldest member of Ninth Street Baptist Church.
Bertha married Tory McCurry in 1939 and they were married for 51 years. They had lived in Erwin since 1946.
In addition to her parents, Bertha is preceded in death by her husband, Tory McCurry, in 1990; four brothers; and three sisters.
She leaves behind: Several Nieces and Nephews and Friends
The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 23, 2011, in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Reverend Rob Moor and John Olive will officiate.
The family will receive friends at noon until service on Friday at Valley Funeral Home.
A committal service will follow in the Mausoleum Chapel at Evergreen Cemetery.
A special offering of gratitude is given to Caris Healthcare and the staff of Center on Aging and Health for their love and compassion that was given to Bertha.
